RIGA - The annual nationwide Big Cleanup campaign will take place for the 17th time in Latvia on April 27, the event's spokeswoman Anna Blaua informed LETA.
To prepare for the cleanup, people are asked to mark littered or polluted locations on a map available on the Big Cleanup's website.
Everyone is invited to report places that should be tidied up during the cleanup. A month before the cleanup, potential participants will be able to register the locations they have chosen to clean up. Participants of the Solo Cleanup will be able to mark their chosen locations on the Solo Cleanup map.
Vita Jaunzeme, the leader of the Big Cleanup movement, notes that Latvia, as the country that joined the cleanup movement in 2008 together with Estonia, has already received several World Cleanup awards for the highest percentage of citizen participation. She underlines that a recent report again highlights Latvia for its consistently high performance - as a country that regularly exceeds the 5 percent participation threshold.
