Foreign ministers of Baltic Sea region to meet in Finland

RIGA - A meeting of the foreign ministers of the Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS) will be held in Finland today, with Foreign Minister Baiba Braze (New Unity) scheduled to represent Latvia at the meeting, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed LETA.

The CBSS is a political forum for intergovernmental cooperation in the region, including the three Baltic states, the five Nordic countries, as well as Poland, Germany and the European Commission.

At the meeting in Finland, the ministers are expected to discuss issues related to the security and prosperity of the region, the most important challenges of the moment and ways to address them effectively in the CBSS format. Braze will also hold bilateral talks with the Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide.

The CBSS identifies political objectives, develops action plans, proposes and implements strategic projects of regional importance in the areas of long-term priorities defined by the CBSS, and provides a forum for the exchange of opinions and ideas on issues of regional relevance.

Finland holds the CBSS Presidency from July 1, 2023 to June 30, 2024.
