On Wednesday, Lithuanian Minister of Transport and Communications Marius Skuodis will meet with Deputy Prime Minister of Poland and Minister of Digital Affairs Krzysztof Gawkowski, who will be visiting Lithuania. The Ministers will discuss bilateral cooperation in the fields of transport and telecommunications, 5G development. They will also visit the AB Lithuanian Radio and Television Center (Telecentras) and will inspect one of the two new state data centers currently under construction in Vilnius.

With the aim of implementing the international 5G corridor, cooperation between the Baltic States and Poland is being consolidated, ensuring high-quality 5G connection in the cross-country road and rail transport corridors of the European network Via Baltica and Rail Baltica. By 2025, 5G connection should be installed in urban areas, international land transport corridors and other highways, trunk railway lines of national importance, airports and seaports.

In June 2023, the Lithuanian Government recognised the development of 5G as an important project for the state.

Two top-level state data centres currently being built next to the Vilnius TV Tower will significantly strengthen the general security of the country’s information resources, save money and electricity. They will centrally store and manage the data of hundreds of state institutions and organisations. The total investment of Telecentras in these state data centres, technological equipment, telecommunication connections and other elements of the project will amount to more than 20 million euros.

This is the second meeting between Mr Skuodis and Polish Deputy Prime Minister K. Gawkowski - they already met during the Lithuanian Transport Minister’s visit to Warsaw in February this year.
