Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe Weekend Set to Feature Blockbuster Card

  • 2024-08-19

Horse racing fans across the Baltic nations will be counting down the days to the 2024 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe weekend in Paris. The two-day event is the premier race meeting in Europe, with the stars in each division lining up to add their names to the honors’ board at Longchamp.

The Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe is the feature race of the meeting, but there is a strong support card, with the Prix de L’Abbaye and Prix de l’Opera also set to include strong fields.

French Colts Set Standard in Arc

Look De Vega and Sosie have been two of the most impressive three-year-old colts in Europe this season. The former won the Prix du Jockey Club (French Derby) at Chantilly back in May, and he is the +275 favorite in the racing odds from Paddy Power for the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.

The unbeaten French colt will be bidding to replicate the double Ace Impact completed in 2023, with success in the two major races in France. He is likely to be one of the leading horse racing tips for this year’s Arc meeting as his French Derby form continues to be strengthened as the season progresses.

Look De Vega is trained by father and son training duo Carlos and Yann Lerner. They will become the first training partnership in history to win the Longchamp feature, should their horse prove successful this year.

As per the France Galop race report, Sosie finished third behind Look De Vega in the French Derby earlier this season. However, it did not take him long to win a Group One contest. Andre Fabre’s runner scored in the Grand Prix de Paris just two months later at Longchamp. That victory puts him in the mix for the open-age contest over 1m4f in October.

Australia Mare Set for Prix de l’Abbaye Run

Australia has a record for producing impressive sprinters in horse racing, and their latest star Asfoora has already been successful in Europe this season. The five-year-old won the King Charles III Stakes at Royal Ascot in what was a strong international line-up.

Asfoora just failed in her bid to win a major summer double at Glorious Goodwood as she had to settle for the runner-up spot in the King George Qatar Stakes. Those two horses will renew their rivalry in the Prix de l’Abbaye on Arc weekend at Longchamp.

The last three renewals of the Prix de l’Abbaye have been won by British-trained horses. Trainer George Boughey will be hoping his filly Believing continues that trend. She won the Group Two Sapphire Stakes at the Curragh earlier this season.

Sparkling Plenty the Star Filly in Prix de l’Opera

French filly Sparkling Plenty won a strong renewal of the Prix de Diane at Chantilly this season. She will be bidding for more Group One glory in the Prix de l’Opera at Longchamp. The race is set to include the best fillies from across Europe.

Patrick Cottier’s runner has won three times this season over distances between 1m-1m2½f. She has also shown her versatility on different ground conditions, so her connections will not be concerned by slow or fast conditions at Longchamp in her bid to end her campaign with a major triumph.

The 2024 Prix de l’Arc Triomphe meeting takes place between October 5-6 and tens of thousands of horse racing fans are set to make the trip across to Paris for the two days.
