5 new ministers sworn in before parlt

TALLINN - Five ministers in the Estonian government led by Prime Minister Kristen Michal took office Tuesday after being sworn in before the parliament.

On Monday, President Alar Karis, on Michal's proposal, appointed Karmen Joller as minister of social affairs, Andres Sutt as minister of energy and environment, Kuldar Leis as minister of infrastructure, Igor Taro as minister of the interior, and Hendrik Johannes Terras as minister of regional affairs and agriculture.

The ministers took the oath of office at the parliament's plenary on Tuesday and now begin work as members of the government.

The new government composition has one fewer ministerial position than before. Including the prime minister, the government now consists of 13 members. With the change in ministers, Yoko Alender has resigned as climate minister and Signe Riisalo as minister of social protection.

According to the coalition agreement signed between the Reform Party and Estonia 200 on Monday, the Reform Party holds the portfolios for prime minister, finance minister, defense minister, minister of economic affairs and industry, culture minister, minister of social affairs, minister of infrastructure, and minister of energy and environment.

Estonia 200 holds the portfolios for minister of education and research, minister of justice and digital affairs, minister of regional affairs and agriculture, minister of the interior, and foreign minister.
