Around 350 trees broken by storm in territories managed by Rigas Mezi

RIGA - Around 350 trees have been broken down in a storm in the territories manager by Rigas Mezi municipal forest manager, the company informed LETA.

Intensive work is currently underway in all Riga gardens and parks, in Mezaparks, as well as in the Riga and Tireli forestries.

The company repeatedly asks people not to visit the parks and forests and not to go near the places where work on tackling with the storm damage is in progress.

The most extensive damage is in Plavnieki park, Lucavsala, Kronvalda Park, Arkadijas Park, the Great Cemetery and Mezaparks.

The most affected forest areas in the administrative territory of Riga are Anninmuiza, Smerlis, Bikernieki.

In total, Rigas Mezi received around 70 reports on dangerous storm damage from residents and legal entities.

According to Rigas Mezi, this is the worst storm damage in the forests of Pieriga region in the last 20 years.

The damage and flooding in these areas is so severe that it could also affect soil preparation and tree planting next season.

Rigas Mezi, a company owned by the Riga municipality, was registered in 2008. The company manages forest properties of 4,602 hectares in Riga and Jurmala, as well as forest properties of 58,016 hectares in a radius of about 50 kilometers around the capital. Rigas Mezi also manages 446 hectares of public greenery in Riga and 367 hectares of the Mezaparks culture and recreation park.
