Aseradens, Valainis and Lace appointed acting ministers of education, welfare and transport

RIGA - Prime Minister Evika Silina (New Unity) has appointed Arvils Aseradens (New Unity), Viktors Valainis (Greens/Farmers) and Agnese Lace (Progressives) as acting ministers of education, welfare and transport, according to the prime minister's decree.

As she nnounced a government "restart" last week, Silina dismissed Anda Caksa (New Unity) as education and science minister, Uldis Augulis (Greens/Farmers) as welfare minister, and Kaspars Briskens (Progressives) as transport minister.

Until further decisions are taken or new ministers are confirmed, Finance Minister Aseradens will be Acting Education and Science Minister, Economics Minister Valainis will be Acting Welfare Minister, and Culture Minister Lace will be Acting Transport Minister.

Caksa, Augulis and Briskens continue their respective ministerial duties this week, until February 26.

On Monday, New Unity nominated Janis Rozenbergs, the mayor of Cesis municipality, for the post of the education and science minister. Greens/Farmers said that clarity on the next welfare minister could emerge after a meeting with representatives of NGOs on Wednesday, February 26.
