Bank of Latvia this year to issue coin dedicated to 'Flow' animated film

RIGA - The Bank of Latvia has decided to issue a collector coin dedicated to the popular Latvian animated film "Flow", which has won more than 70 international awards, including the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, LETA learned from the bank

The release of the collector coin originally planned for 2025, dedicated to the theme of nature, will be postponed to 2026.

Latvian filmmaker Gints Zilbalodis' award-winning animated feature "Flow" is the first Latvian film ever to win such film industry awards as Oscar, Golden Globe and Cesar, among others.

"Flow" is a 3D animated feature telling the story of an individualistic cat who during a global flood is forced to leave his home and seek refuge on a small boat along with several other animals. To survive in the new world which is no longer populated by humans, the Cat needs to change his habits and learn to cooperate with a dog, a capibara, a lemur and a bird.

In 2025, the Bank of Latvia intends to issue five collector coins, as well as one 2 euro commemorative coin and one circulation coin set.

The collector coins will be dedicated to the following topics relevant to Latvia: a gold collector coin "Our Land"; a collector coin dedicated to the 400th anniversary of the city of Liepaja; a collector coin dedicated to painter Dzemma Skulme; a collector coin dedicated to the 500th anniversary of the first book in Latvian; a collector coin dedicated to the animated film "Flow".

In 2025, a 2 euro commemorative coin dedicated to the coat of arms of Salija will be issued in souvenir cards (in Brilliant Uncirculated quality) and rolls (in circulation quality).
