RIGA - Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics (New Unity) has submitted to the government bills on the ratification of the accession of Finland and Sweden to NATO, the Foreign Ministry's press secretary Janis Bekeris informed LETA.
According to the government's agenda, the Cabinet of Ministers will decide on the bills this Tuesday, May 24.
Rinkevics said on Twitter that the bills that have been submitted to the government will approve the protocol on the accession of Finland and Sweden to NATO.
"The NATO membership of Finland and Sweden will strengthen the security of Latvia and the Baltic region. I hope it will happen soon," Rinkevics said.
As reported, Finland and Sweden submitted their applications to join NATO on May 18.
