Braze to meet with Spanish Foreign, EU and Cooperation Minister Bueno

RIGA - Latvian Foreign Minister Baiba Braze, while on an official visit to the Kingdom of Spain, will meet with the Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation of Spain, Jose Manuel Albares Bueno, and the Minister for Defense of Spain, Margarita Robles Fernandez, LETA learned from the Foreign Ministry.

Braze, together with the Minister for Defense Robles will meet the Spanish military personnel who are to be deployed to, or have already served in the Spanish contingent of the NATO Multinational Brigade in Latvia.

The NATO Multinational Brigade Latvia currently consists of about 4,000 allied troops from 13 NATO member countries, including over 600 personnel from Spain.

As part of the visit, the officials will sign a Memorandum of Understanding between the Latvian and Spanish Ministries of Foreign Affairs on the establishment of a political consultation mechanism. It provides for regular ministerial and expert-level contacts to promote closer cooperation and an exchange of views.

In the Elcano Royal Institute (Real Instituto Elcano), a Spanish think tank, the Minister will have a meeting with its Director Charles Powell and take part in a round table discussion with leading foreign policy, security and economics experts of Spain.
