TALLINN – The Swedish royal family congratulated the Estonian School in Stockholm on its 80th anniversary, and Crown Princess Victoria also attended the bilingual concert held on Friday in the 460-seat Grünewald Hall of the Stockholm Concert Hall.

"The Estonian School in Stockholm's Old Town is the only Estonian basic school outside Estonia that has operated continuously for 80 years. The school preserves and spreads Estonian culture, along with the language and customs of this country," the royal family wrote in its congratulations.

The school, located in Stockholm's Old Town, was founded on March 15, 1945. Hermann Rajamaa, the first headmaster of the educational institution, which was then called the Stockholm Estonian Primary School, probably never imagined that the school, initially created for 33 Estonian children for only five months, would still exist in 2025 with over 200 children studying there.

The main event of the 80th anniversary of the Stockholm Estonian School will take place on Saturday.
