Culture Minister Lace might attend Oscars ceremony together with 'Flow' team

RIGA - Culture Minister Agnese Lace (Progressives) and the National Film Center's director Dita Rietuma might attend the Oscars ceremony on March 2 in Los Angeles, US, along with the creators of the animated film "Flow".

The culture minister's adviser Rita Plume told LETA that ministers' trips abroad have to be approved by Prime Minister Evika Silina (New Unity). As LETA reported, the prime minister has taken ill.

As the National Film Center's representative Kristine Matisa informed LETA, also going to the Academy Awards ceremony is "Flow" team, including director Gints Zilbalodis, producer Matiss Kaza and others. Representatives of Latvia's public service media LSM has also received accreditation.

"Flow" is the first Latvian film to ever be nominated for the Academy Awards. Moreover, "Flow" has been nominated for the Oscar in two categories - best feature film and best foreign film.

"Flow" is a three-country co-production between the Latvia's Dream Well Studio, the French studio Sacrebleu Productions and the Belgian studio Take Five.

"Flow" is a 3D animated feature telling the story of an individualistic cat who during a global flood is forced to leave his home and seek refuge on a small boat along with several other animals. To survive in the new world which is no longer populated by humans, the Cat needs to change his habits and learn to cooperate with a dog, a capibara, a lemur and a bird.

The Academy Awards are held in Los Angeles, California, and since 2001 have been held at the Dolby Theatre, located in the Ovation Hollywood complex.
