TALLINN - In the first quarter of this year, the revenue of the digital communications company Elisa Eesti increased by 3.9 percent over the same period in 2024 to 53 million euros and the company became the operator with the largest population coverage in 5G in Estonia.

Commenting on the progress made by Elisa Eesti in the first quarter, CEO Andrus Hiiepuu said that the Estonian economy has started to gradually recover from the downturn, which is also reflected in their growing revenue figures.

"Speaking of the biggest achievements of the first quarter, we became the operator with the largest 5G population coverage in Estonia, opened the first standalone 5G network, and enabled 5G calls. Additionally, we expanded our fiber optic network and introduced an internet service with speeds of 2.5 gigabits per second," the CEO said.

In the field of telecommunications services, Elisa became the operator with the largest 5G population coverage in Estonia by opening the first standalone 5G network in Estonia and, along with it, introduced the capability for 5G or VoNR calls and new packages supporting it.

In cable and fiber services, the 10G-EPON technology was extended to 2,000 homes and 54 commercial buildings were connected to the ultra-fast cable network. In order to speed up the movement towards a gigabit society, Elisa lowered the price of its fastest 1 Gbit/s connection by 37 percent and was the first in Estonia to launch a fiber-optic cable package offering up to 2.5 Gbit/s download and upload speeds -- the fastest internet service available in Estonia.

In the IT and cyber security area, Elisa focused on expanding competencies and raising customer awareness of cyber threats. Elisa Netivalvur, a service that protects both individuals and businesses from cyber attacks and fraud, significantly increased its user base during the quarter. At the same time, threats have also increased: in the three months, the service blocked nearly eight million suspicious links, spam messages and advertisements.

In order to strengthen its international software development team and competence and creating a unique software center, Elisa launched its largest recruitment campaign in Estonia in recent years, Mission: Possible -- The Next Chapter. As part of the campaign, it is planned to recruit some 100 software and artificial intelligence specialists and executives in Estonia and Finland in 2025.

In the field of technology, Elisa Eesti and SEI Robotics presented a soundbar equipped with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos technology -- certified by Netflix and specifically designed for the Elisa Elamus Premium set-top box -- at CES, the world's largest technology trade show.

At the end of the first quarter, Elisa Eesti had a total of more than 696,000 mobile service interfaces, 158,300 TV service interfaces and about 109,000 cable internet interfaces.
