Estonia: Third of young people have experienced sexual abuse

TALLINN - Although 32 per cent of Estonian children and young people have experienced sexual abuse, only a small percentage of them ever turn to a specialist with the problem, the daily Postimees reports. A fresh study conducted by the University of Tartu shows that slightly more than half of the children and young people who have experienced sexual abuse told someone about it, but usually they told a friend and afterwards their mother or a brother or sister, but not the police, a social pedagogue, a teacher, or a psychologist.
