TALLINN - In a meeting in Estonia with visiting Lithuanian Prime Minister Gintautas Paluckas, President Alar Karis emphasized the importance of continuing and developing cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the fields of energy, transport, and defense.

"Energy and transport form the backbone of our strategic infrastructure. A month and a half ago, we successfully synchronized our electricity grids with the European frequency area, ending our energy dependence on Russia. Our next shared focus in developing strategic infrastructure could be accelerating the Rail Baltic project," Karis said.

The Estonian president and Lithuanian prime minister also exchanged experiences on renewable and nuclear energy, fields in which both countries are pursuing similar developments.

Karis and Paluckas also expressed firm support for the president of Ukraine in peace negotiations and discussed additional defense cooperation opportunities to strengthen security in the Baltic Sea region.
