Estonian president to thank athletes who competed at Paris Olympics

TALLINN - At the invitation of President Alar Karis and the Estonian Olympic Committee, the Estonian athletes who participated in the Paris Olympics, their supporters and everyone who contributed to the athletes' participation and the broadcasts reaching people's homes will gather in the Rose Garden of the president's office in Kadriorg at 2 p.m. on Friday.

Estonia did not win any medals in Paris, but altogether 13 athletes finished in the top 10 of their sports. The best result was achieved by fencer Nelli Differt, who came fourth.

Differt was followed by decathlete Janek Õiglane with fifth place and decathlete Johannes Erm with sixth place, while hurdler Rasmus Mägi, swimmers Kregor Zirk and Eneli Jefimova, rowers Tõnu Endrekson, Allar Raja, Johann Poolak and Mihhail Kuštein all came seventh.

Weightlifter Mart Seim achieved ninth place, judoka Klen Kristofer Kaljulaid also came ninth and wrestler Heiki Nabi finished tenth at these Olympics.

According to the decision of the executive committee of the Estonian Olympic Committee, 25 athletes from 14 sports, plus 49 support staff, were part of the Estonian national team at the Paris Olympic Games.

The athletes who competed in Paris included cyclists Madis Mihkels and Janika Lõiv, judoka Klen Kristofer Kaljulaid, hurdler Rasmus Mägi, decathletes Janek Õiglane, Johannes Erm and Karel Tilga, high jumper Elisabeth Pihela, sport shooters Peeter Olesk and Peeter Jürisson, wrestler Heiki Nabi, windsurfer Ingrid Puusta and sailor Karl-Martin Rammo, show jumping rider My Kaisla Catharina Relander, badminton player Kristin Kuuba, rowers Tõnu Endrekson, Allar Raja, Johann Poolak, Mihhail Kuštein and, as a spare team member, Uku Siim Timmusk, weightlifter Mart Seim, swimmer Eneli Jefimova and Kregor Zirk, fencer Nelli Differ and archer Reena Pärnat.
