RIGA - Four victims of the tragic accident on the Ventspils Highway are still being treated in hospitals, LETA has learned.
lze Olsteina, a spokesperson for the Children's Clinical University Hospital, said that one of the children injured in the accident was still receiving treatment at the hospital. The hospital did not provide further information on the child's health condition.
Santa Koha, a spokesperson for Ventspils Hospital, said that two victims of the accident continue their treatment at the North Kurzeme Regional Hospital in Ventspils "according to their health condition".
The driver injured in the accident is receiving treatment at Riga East Clinical University Hospital, said Aldis Abele, Executive Director of Ventspils Municipality. The Kurzeme Regional Directorate of the State Police also confirmed to LETA that the driver of the minibus was still receiving medical treatment. The hospital did not provide any information to LETA, stressing that its representatives are not authorized to do so.
The police also said that the criminal investigation was ongoing, but law enforcers are not commenting on whether and what status the minibus driver had been given in the case. Meanwhile, Latvian Television interviewed the truck drivers involved in the accident, who said that the minibus driver was trying to pass another vehicle when the collision took place.
As reported, children from Ventspils Music School choir "Nosu Planeta" were injured in a collision between a minibus and a truck on Ventspils Highway this past Friday, while one of the choir's conductors was killed.
One of the children later died in hospital.
The children and the choir conductors were on their way to an international Christmas song competition in Daugavpils, they were traveling in a rented minibus.
