Gulbis knocked out of U.S. Open qualification

NEW YORK - On Monday, Latvia's top ranked tennis player Ernests Gulbis lost to Japan's Yosuke Watanaki 2-6, 1-6 in the opening qualification round of this year's U.S. Open Grand Slam tennis tournament.

At the moment, Gulbis is ranked 124th in the ATP rankings, while Watanaki is ranked 228th.

There are three qualification rounds to qualify for the main tournament.
