RIGA - Latvian and Indian businesses are increasingly interested in cooperation, especially in the fields of high-technology, information technology and innovation, according to Latvian Foreign Minister Baiba Braze (New Unity), who paid a working visit to India this week.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), India and Latvia have good bilateral relations, with great potential for growth in economic cooperation and within multilateral organizations.
During the visit, business representatives from both countries met in potential areas of cooperation - information and communication technology, space industry, electronics, photonics, green technologies, biomedicine and others.
Representatives of the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia and entrepreneurs from the information and communication technology, space, medical and chemical sectors - Eventech, Deep Space Energy, PrintyMed, Nordichem, Sertifikacijas un Testesanas Centrs, as well as DeskTime - traveled to India.
During her visit, Braze discussed with Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar both the possible conclusion of and support for the EU-India Free Trade Agreement and transatlantic relations.
In her view, the Indian Foreign Minister also had a valuable discussion with her on achieving a just and lasting peace in Ukraine and containing Russia. She believes that this will have implications for Europe's security situation and for the security and prosperity of the Indo-Pacific region.
Speaking at the Raisina Dialogue 2025 security conference, Braze said that in order to achieve a just and lasting peace in Ukraine, any settlement must guarantee Ukraine's independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity. The Latvian Foreign Minister stressed that Russia started this war and must stop it. She pointed out that Russia was now trying to gain influence not only in Europe, but all over the world, including in Asia.
The MFA points out that in the current geopolitical situation it is important for Latvia to engage in global discussions on peace and war, both because of its contradictory views and interests, and to counter the lies and disinformation spread by Russia, for which it strategically uses various formats and platforms.
The Ministry informed that the possibility of expanding the inter-state contractual framework is currently being prepared. Braze expressed interest in concluding a bilateral agreement on higher education, as well as a bilateral cooperation program in education and science.
At the India-Europe Business Exchange Program, organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry, Braze presented Latvia's achievements in the fields of information and communication technologies, space industry and innovation.
Meanwhile, the Minister discussed with representatives of the European Business Federation in India the most important sectors of the Latvian economy, highlighting Latvia's achievements in high-technology and innovation, where there is great potential for cooperation with India. Meanwhile, the Federation confirmed its readiness to provide support for starting or expanding a business in India.
Furthermore, the foreign minister, together with a group of Latvian business representatives, also met with the leadership of the Indian Space Research Organization, which was founded in 1969 in Bengalura. Representatives of the Latvian space industry presented their achievements in the space industry and discussed concrete opportunities for cooperation. The Minister invited the Indian Space Research Organization to visit Latvia and to agree on concrete steps for further cooperation.
