VILNIUS – A company importing coal and rubber to Lithuania from Russia has been fined 1.27 million euros by customs officials for breaching international sanctions.
"The Economic Entity Inspection Division of the Kaunas Territorial Customs Office deemed transactions with sanctioned companies and the transportation of goods supplied by them as a violation of international sanctions," the Customs said in a press release on Thursday.
It did not disclose the name of the company.
Prosecutor General Nida Grunskiene has said recently that more than 50 pre-trial investigations are currently underway into attempts to violate international sanctions against Russia and Belarus.
The Financial Crime Investigation Service said on Tuesday that formal suspicions of violating international sanctions and smuggling goods, worth almost 2 million euros in total, to Russia had been brought against seven individuals and four companies.
The Customs said last week that a Lithuanian company exporting cars had been slapped with a 13.6-million-euro fine for breaching international sanctions. According to BNS sources, the fine was imposed on Biovarda, a Vilnius-based company.
