VILNIUS - Lithuanian Defense Minister Dovile Sakaliene said on Wednesday that she has no doubts about China's role in Russia's war in Ukraine.

"China's very active involvement in supporting Russia - financially, politically, and through other means - should leave no doubt about China's role, its goals, and how effectively this team of the axis of evil is operating," she told journalists.

The minister made the remarks as Ukraine announced that two Chinese nationals had been captured on the battlefield while fighting alongside Russian forces.

Kyiv plans to demand an explanation from Beijing and a reaction from its allies.

According to Sakaliene, if this information is confirmed, it will be yet another "illustrative example" of cooperation between the Kremlin and Beijing.

Neither Russia nor China has commented on this information so far.

Since February 2022, when the Kremlin's forces invaded Ukraine, Moscow and Beijing have stepped up political, military and economic cooperation.
