RIGA - Russian dictator Vladimir Putin's reluctance to take a resolute action in response to Ukrainian forces' incursion in Russia's Kursk region causes concerns, Kaspars Pudans, Commander of the Latvian National Guard, said in an interview on TV3 channel.

In Pudans' view, this is an indication that Putin's priority is to achieve his goals in Ukraine, to keep conquering more territories in Donbas and other regions rather than reclaim the occupied Russian land.

"It means that there is no pressure from the public, from the opposition, from others around him. He and his regime do not feel threatened," said Pudans.

The commander of the National Guard said that someone in Russia should take the lead to counter the regime, otherwise protests will only continue "in the kitchens", while from the outside it will seem that people agree with everything.

As reported, the Ukrainian army began its offensive in the Kursk region on August 6, breaking through Russian border defenses in the Sudzha area and then advancing rapidly into adjacent areas.
