Afrolat is a Latvian NGO devoted to furthering the rights of Africans and people of African descent living in Latvia. Last June, after the leaving an Afrolat meeting, one of the group's members was attacked with a bottle and beaten by two skinheads. Afrolat brought the case to court, and on Jan. 30 both perpetrators were sentenced to jail time. It was a landmark ruling, the country's first custodial sentence for a hate crime.
