TALLINN -- Estonia's parliament has passed a series of controversial tax reform bills that will result in tax cuts for most of the population.
On Thursday parliament passed a bill that will slash the flat tax rate for everyone to 20% from 21%. The bill will make up for the lost revenue by lowering the minimum taxable level to 1,920 euros per year from 3,196 euros per year.
In a seperate bill passed the same day, parliament exempted homeowners with less than 2 hectares of countryside land or .15 hectares of urban land from the tax, which was the only one in the country that provided money solely for municipalities.
