Latvia's tuberculosis incubators

This morning Janis Leimans, director of the National Tuberculosis Center, received a call warning him that a prisoner with tuberculosis was being released. In Latvia it is required that prisoners released with tuberculosis go to hospitals for treatment, but few do. Leimans does not expect to see today's ex-prisoner anytime soon."They are out of prison and if they feel better they run away," said Leimans. Unfortunately more and more of Latvia's freed prisoners enter the community armed with a weapon they picked up behind bars - tuberculosis.Last year 279 of the 1,820 new tuberculosis patient...
