Polish football fans detained for disturbing public order and possession of illegal narcotics

RIGA - On Wednesday, visiting Polish football fans in Latvia behaved in an orderly manner in general, but several violations were detected, including disturbing public order and drug use, the State Police's Public Relations Department told LETA.

In one case, a public order disturbance was reported, for which the police launched administrative violation proceedings. In some other cases, police received information about possible disturbance of public order by Polish fans, but the information was not confirmed.

Also, the State Police together with the State Border Guard carried out an inspection of Polish football fans at the border checkpoint, where the police detected several offences related to the use and possession of narcotic substances, the police said.

As reported, Latvian football club Riga won a first-leg second qualification round match of this season's UEFA Conference League against Polish club Wroclaw Slask 1:0 in Riga on Wednesday.

A large number of Polish football fans arrived in the Latvian capital for the match.
