VILNIUS – Radiation levels in Lithuania remain unchanged after a fire broke out at the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in Ukraine, the Radiation Protection Center said late on Sunday evening.

"We want to reassure the population of Lithuania that radiation protection specialists are constantly monitoring the radiation background in Lithuania, which remain unchanged, and there is no reason for concern," it posted on Facebook.

Ukraine and Russia have blamed each other after the fire broke out at the plant in southern Ukraine, more than 900 kilometers from Lithuania, on Sunday.

Both sides said no changes in radiation levels have been recorded around the Zaporizhia plant, which has been under the control of Russian forces since the early days of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said on Sunday that the fire at the plant posed no threat to nuclear safety.
