The equipment installation phase is approaching at Stiga RM wood-wool cement board factory

The construction of the new Stiga RM wood-wool cement board factory in Tukums is progressing in accordance with the plan, pursuant to the agreement with the Italian manufacturer SCM Group S.p.A for the supply and installation of high-tech production equipment. Over the next few months, the supplier will provide a wide range of production equipment worth several million euros to ensure that the 15,000 square metre plant is put into operation by the end of the next year, providing almost 100 new jobs and the production of high-quality wood products, mainly for export markets.

“We are pleased that the construction of the new plant is progressing according to plan and, at some stages, is even ahead of the original schedule – if, at the beginning of construction, the opening of the plant was scheduled for the first half of 2026, now the plans clearly mark the end of next year as the date when the Tukums region will become one manufacturing company richer,” says Sandis Fogelmanis, Manager of the Stiga RM wood-wool cement board factory.

Construction of the factory building is scheduled to be fully completed this autumn. Access roads have also been built, the timber yard – asphalted, the office building and the boiler house have been constructed, as well as sewage, water and electricity supply systems have been provided. The next important step is to supply, install and integrate equipment, as well as start the production process.

“The new plant is expected to be the most advanced wood-wool cement board (WWCB) plant in the world, with a level of technology solutions and robotics that is currently unmatched anywhere else. We have set ourselves big and ambitious targets; therefore, we have allowed sufficient lead time before the start-up of the factory to ensure that the production process is as efficient, precise and streamlined as possible,” says Sandis Fogelmanis.

Thanks to innovative and powerful technologies, the plant will be able to produce up to 4.5 million square metres of acoustic wood-wool cement board every year. This high-quality, human- and environmentally-friendly, CO2-neutral wood product will mainly be exported to European, Scandinavian and North American countries, but the growing market will provide opportunities for marketing this product worldwide.

The total investment in the new plant will exceed EUR 32 million.
