RIGA - Triplets have been born today at the Riga Maternity Hospital, LETA was informed.

The eldest sister was born at 9.36 and weighed 1,659 grams. The middle girl, weighing 1,544 grams, was born a minute later. The weight of the younger sister was 1,662 grams.

The parents of the triplet girls are from Riga.

Since 1993, a one-off social allowance of EUR 15,000 has been provided to families with triplets. This is intended to provide material support to families with triplets, given that the simultaneous birth and care of three children entails significantly higher additional costs.

The benefit is not subject to personal income tax and is paid by the Welfare Ministry.

Riga Mayor Vilnis Kirsis (New Unity) wishes the newborn triplets and parents strong health, safe and love filled life. The Riga City Council will be a benefit of EUR 4,500 to the family.
