RIGA - Ukraine's victory over Russia's evil is necessary for the security and prosperity of the whole of Europe, Prime Minister Evika Silina (New Unity) stressed at the European Political Community (EPC) meeting in London.

The Prime Minister's press secretary Aleksis Zoldners told LETA that at the meeting, Silina, together with leaders of 45 European countries, discussed the impact of Russia's war in Ukraine on the security situation in the region and opportunities for cooperation between countries in the areas of security, energy and connectivity.

The meeting of the European political community brings together European Union countries with other countries in Europe.

She believes it is significant that this year's meeting is being held in the United Kingdom, whose newly elected Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, has shown his willingness to strengthen cooperation with the European Union and support Ukraine.

"While Russia continues its criminal war, we must do more together to support Ukraine militarily, financially and politically - until victory. It is in all our interests to resist Russia's evil in order to increase security and prosperity in Europe," said the Prime Minister.

Strengthening democracies by making European countries more resilient to disinformation and hybrid threats is also an important task, she stressed, noting that Latvia shares its experience and knowledge with other like-minded countries on these issues.

In her meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, the Prime Minister reaffirmed that Latvia would continue to provide political, military, financial and other forms of support to Ukraine until its victory and beyond.

During her meeting with the President of Moldova Maia Sandu, Silina congratulated the country on the reforms in the areas of the rule of law and democracy, which have enabled Moldova to start negotiations on accession to the European Union. They also discussed the two countries' experience in countering Russian disinformation, hybrid threats and other forms of influence.

During a meeting with the Icelandic Prime Minister Bjarni Benediktsson, the two sides discussed support for Ukraine and Ukrainian civilians, resistance to hybrid threats and the possibilities for developing economic cooperation between the countries.
