VALMIERA - Valmiera will host the European BMX Championships in July, the municipality informed LETA.
The championships will take place at the Maris Strombergs BMX Track in Valmiera from July 10-13.
The event will be organized by the Latvian Cycling Federation in cooperation with the European Cycling Union (UEC), Valmiera Municipality, Maris Strombergs Agency/BMX Club Valmiera and Valmiera Olympic Centre.
The Latvian Cycling Federation's executive director Artis Ozols said that Valmiera Municipality can be proud of its BMX traditions, which date back almost 40 years. In 2019, when Valmiera hosted the European BMX Championships for the first time, the event attracted 1,060 participants from 26 countries.
"We have all the prerequisites for Valmiera to strengthen its place in the European BMX calendar even more this year and to confirm it for the second time - a responsible attitude of the organizers, a high-quality track, a professional team to organize a high-quality event, a supportive and welcoming local community," Ozols said.
Valmiera Municipality Chairman Janis Baiks (For Valmiera and Vidzeme) indicated that by hosting BMX competitions of various levels, Valmiera has proven its ability to organize events on a high-level.
"The event has both economic benefits for the development of the municipality and the country, as well as a long-term contribution to the promotion of Valmiera and Latvia as a training, competition and tourism destination. It is also a great opportunity for Latvia's future champions to grow and experience an international competition on their home track," he added.
