Zilbalodis' animated feature "Flow" glosses over EUR 33 million worldwide

RIGA - As at March 17, Latvian filmmaker Gints Zilbalodis' award-winning animated feature "Flow" had grossed USD 36 million (over EUR 33 million), Variety reported.

Budgeted at USD 3.4 million, or over EUR 3 million, "Flow" has grossed USD 4.6 million (EUR 4.5 million) in North America, where it opened in November and was released by Sideshow and Janus Films.

The feature went on to gross about USD 6.7 million (EUR 6.1 million) in Mexico; USD 1 million (EUR 920,000) in Brazil; and USD 3.4 million (EUR 3.12 million) in Argentina, Chile, Uruguay and Paraguay.

In Latvia, the film had grossed slightly below EUR 2 million.

In France, the film was seen by 682,217 moviegoers, providing USD 5.4 million, or EUR 4.96 million, and gross earnings in Germany came to USD 1 million after the first weekend.

"Flow" also grossed USD 1.3 million (EUR 1.19 million) in the Netherlands; USD 1.6 million (EUR 1.47 million) in Spain; USD 2.7 million (EUR 2.4 million) in China (after its third weekend); and USD 591,000 (EUR 542,000) in Vietnam from 157,000 admissions (after its first weekend), among other territories.

"Flow" is the first Latvian film ever to win such film industry awards as Oscar, Golden Globe and Cesar, among others.

"Flow" is a 3D animated feature telling the story of an individualistic cat who during a global flood is forced to leave his home and seek refuge on a small boat along with several other animals. To survive in the new world which is no longer populated by humans, the Cat needs to change his habits and learn to cooperate with a dog, a capibara, a lemur and a bird.

The creative team of Stream includes director, producer, writer and artist Gints Zilbalodis, producer and co-writer Matiss Kaza, producers Ron Dyens and Gregory Zalcman, sound director Gurwal Coic-Gallas, chief animator Leo Silly-Pellisier, music composers Zilbalodis and Rihards Zalupe, visual effects artists Konstantins Visnevskis and Martins Upitis.
